A mastopexy can improve your self-image, self-confidence and self-esteem. It can allow you to wear clothing without a bra. It cannot bring back the breasts that you had when you were a young woman, but it can reshape and improve on your current breast shape.
Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and most patients will spend only one night in hospital after their procedure. The operation takes approximately two hours. Excess breast skin is excised and the nipple-areolae moved to the new position. The breast tissue itself is reshaped higher up on your chest. If simultaneous augmentation is performed ,the implants are then inserted under the breasts.
Most women undergoing a mastopexy will be left with relatively fine scars, which ultimately become pale and relatively inconspicuous, although a modest bra or bathing suit should cover these. The usual scar encircles the areolae, extends vertically down to a scar underneath the breast, similar in shape to an anchor. An alternative scar design is sometimes possible if the sagging is milder, and leaves you with a scar around the areolae and down to the bottom of the breast missing out the horizontal scar under the breast. The scar then looks like a lollipop.
