Book a Consultation

Valerie’s story

1. Why did you decide to have plastic surgery?

My decision to have plastic surgery wasn’t a sudden one or one that I took lightly. After many years yo-yo dieting, whenever I reached a “normal” weight I still was unhappy with my physical appearance, had low self-esteem and a negative body image due to excessive loose skin, so decided that when my weight was stable, I would have surgery.

2. How did you hear about our practice?

Unfortunately, I didn’t know anyone who’d had the surgery I was interested in. After asking around, a friend suggested I looked at the realself website, so it was on there that I found the practice.

3. What made you choose Mr. Winterton for your surgery?

After months of research-mainly on the “Realself” website and trawling through the profiles/reviews and post-surgery photos of dozens of surgeons, I’d narrowed my choices down to 3 whom I would like to have a consultation with. Mr Winterton was the second surgeon I consulted. Immediately, from my first consultation with him Mr Winterton put me at ease with his unhurried, friendly but professional manner. The consultation was in depth and extremely informative. I didn’t feel rushed or pressurised into making any decisions. His honesty on what surgery would be right for me and the pros and cons relating to each were explained. He provided me with realistic expectations without trying to sell additional procedures. This demonstrated his conscientiousness and genuine compassion and commitment to providing the best cate for his patients. I cancelled my third consultation with another surgeon. Without doubt, I knew that Mr Winterton was the right surgeon for me, and I’d made the best decision.

4. How do you feel your surgery went overall?

In Aug 2023 I had a breast and arm lift at the same time. Recovery was uneventful. I had no pain at all following the breast lift. However, the discomfort from arm lift surgery was due to the swelling and subsequent pressure on the stitches.

In March 2024 I underwent FDL abdominoplasty. Recovery seemed to be slow, and I completely underestimated how incapacitated I would be. Simple tasks like standing, sitting and getting in and out of bed were an effort and at times needed assistance. Fortunately, we had a riser recliner chair which was a godsend.

The thigh lift in November 2024 was my fourth operation with Mr Winterton. Overall, the operation went very well, although I had to return to theatre after two weeks-developed a haematoma which was probably due to my pre-existing clotting problem. However, this set back only delayed my recovery by about a week.

5. How did you find your recovery and the aftercare provided?

The post-surgery aftercare and support has been excellent. Initially I was seen weekly and given advice and provided with plenty of dressings. I was always encouraged to phone or email Mr Winterton if I had any concerns or worries

6. How has surgery changed your life?

Surgery has made me less conscious about my physical appearance. It has given me more confidence and self-esteem especially with what clothes I choose to wear.

7. Would you be happy to recommend our practice to your family and friends.

Without a doubt. From my very first phone to Vicki, every member of the team has been attentive, caring and supportive throughout. The standard of care has been excellent and of a high quality. I am extremely satisfied with

every aspect of my experience with the practice and would not hesitate to recommend Mr Winterton and his team to anyone.
